Hey everyone,
Surprise! Namjin Day has been extended! Haha, please thank Sunmi, Okuni, and Angela for bringing a super special BTS tweet to my attention, and Jinterest for pointing out this wonderful wordplay!
Though I’ve shared it on my Twitter, I didn’t want my readers who are not on Twitter to miss out. So I’m sharing it here.
I have assumed that you have read my post “I Love You”, “I Know”.
1. The Tweet
On 6 July 2013, Namjoon tweeted the following:
The caption 안녕하세요 김음악봇인데요 고백하러 왔습니다. 그러니까 메이트 – 난 너를 사랑해 means: “Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. So Mate, I love you.”
The song Namjoon links in the tweet is the song “I Love You” (난 너를 사랑해) originally sung by an artist called Mate.
As per “I Love You”, “I Know”, Jin sings and releases a cover of this same song two years later on 4 December 2015.
Jin said: “it’s a song I’ve liked a lot since my trainee days. It moved me a lot when I heard it for the first time.”
So, let’s list what we know:
- Namjoon was in love with someone on 6 July 2013. This is consistent with what I’ve said in my blogs – That Namjoon and his lover were together when BTS debuted in 2013.
- Jin has liked “I Love You” since his trainee days, which would be around 2010-2013 before BTS debuted.
- Namjoon chose the song “I Love You”, (a song that Jin likes) to confess his love to his lover on 6 July 2013.
- Jin chose the song “I Love You” (a song that Joon presumably likes since he tweeted it) because he wanted to relay his feelings to someone he loves on 4 December 2015.
The point I am trying to make is that the song “I Love You” by Mate is special to both Namjoon and Jin.
The timing of Joon’s tweet also supports my timeline.
2. So Mate
Namjoon and Jin’s cross-language wordplay never ceases to amaze me.
So, the caption 안녕하세요 김음악봇인데요 고백하러 왔습니다. 그러니까 메이트 – 난 너를 사랑해 means: “Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. So Mate, I love you.”
So Mate, in English, sounds like Soulmate.
In other words, the tweet can be read as: “Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. Soulmate, I love you.“
Under this interpretation, the tweet becomes consistent with what I discussed in DNA (Part 1 and Part 2). I said:
- “The…verse…is a direct reference to the Greet Mythology about Soulmates… In other words, Namjoon and his lover aren’t just lovers. They are Soulmates.“
- “The story of DNA is set around about the time BTS first met each other, got together and debuted. By extension, this means that around about the same time, Namjoon also met his lover.” – This timing discussed in DNA matches 6 July 2013.
3. Or… So, Mate
The word “Mate” itself means partner, companion, or literally… mate (like, your mate for life).
In other words, the tweet can be read as:
“Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. So, Mate… I love you.“
“Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. So, Partner… I love you.“
And if you can read Chinese (I like how it is expressed in Chinese):
“Hello, this is Kim music bot, I came to confess. 所以伴侣-我爱你”
